My Dear Clara

(2001) 44 minutes

When Clara Greenspan left Montreal for Warsaw in June of 1938 she could not have known how her personal destiny would become intertwined with the events soon to unfold in Europe….

Set in Canada, Poland, Russia, and Germany, between 1938 and 1948, My dear Clara is a documentary film that takes us inside the lives of two young lovers forced apart for almost ten years. Their story unfolds against the backdrop of both the war in Europe and life in Canada’s during the tumultuous war years.

My Dear Clara interweaves the drama of a Polish Jewish refugee’s survival with his Canadian wife’s unflinching battle to change her government’s immigration policies.

Broadcast on SRC/RDI, WTN, and SCN networks. Screened at over 20 festivals in Canada, the USA, Europe, and Australia.

Award: J.I. Segal Award for best Canadian film on a Jewish theme.
